What is THCV?

Cannabis sativa strains include trace levels of the chemical tetrahydrocannabivarin, or THCV. Different from other cannabinoids like THC or CBD, it offers a variety of impacts and advantages.

THC and THCV differ in that THC has a pentyl, or five carbon side chain, whereas THCV has a propyl, or three carbon side chain. This molecular variation modifies how THCV interacts with and impacts the body’s receptors.

THCV does not have the same intoxicating effects as THC at low to moderate doses. On the other hand, it essentially lessens the “high” that THC gives its users. Higher doses of THCV do show that it has its own distinct psychedelic properties.
